NOTE: In the Eighth Annual Report of the Trustees and Superintendant of the Indiana Asylum for Educating the Deaf and Dumb, Doc 4. 1851 (Indianapolis: State Printer, 1856), Elizabeth Vanderpool of Monroe County is reported to have died "on the eighth of May last." Her obituary as it appears in the Annual Report can be read here.
