NOTE: According to The Hoosier, Vol. 106, #12, page 11 (published by the Indiana School for the Deaf), D. Mitchum [sic] died 16 April 1871, aged 13 years, 4 months, 28 days. The Indiana School for the Deaf, 1843-1994, Sesquicentennial: A Commemorative Yearbook (Indianapolis, IN: The Indiana School for the Deaf Alumni Association, 1994, p. 43) gives his name as David N. Mitcham.
