Researchers are encouraged to enter their information into the DeafBiographies database via this website. The collaborative effort between researchers and the administrators of DeafBiographies results in a very useful resource.

Surname in the fact: Enter the last name of the person involved in the event. Normal capitalization is preferred instead of all caps.

First name in the fact: Enter the first name of the person involved in the event. Enter it as it appears in the record. If the record says "Thos.," enter "Thos." rather than "Thomas."

Type of fact: Use the drop-down menu to select what type of event is being recorded.

  • Biography: Use this for sources such as county histories and obituaries which contain numerous facts about a person's life.
  • Birth: Use this for sources which record the birth of a person.
  • Census:: Use this to record the appearance of a person in the census. Use the Comments/narrative field to record all of the data in the census entry (age, birthplace, etc.)
  • Death: Use this for sources which record the death of a person, such as simple obituaries, tombstones, etc.
  • Graduation: Use this to record the graduation of a person from school.
  • Marriage: Use this to record a marriage.
  • Other: Use this for events which do not fit the other categories. Please use this type sparingly.
  • Residence: Use this to record the residence of a person, such as from a city directory.
  • School Admission: Use this to record the admission of a student into school.
  • School Attendance: Use this to record a person's attendance in school.

Date the fact happened: Enter the date of the event.

Place the fact happened: Enter where the event occurred.

Source of the fact: Enter where the information came from. Please include full information. For example, if from a book, enter the author, title, publisher, publication date and page number.

Comments/narrative: Enter the text of the record or abstracts of the information found in the record. Also use this field to enter pertinent comments about the record itself, such as "Microfilm was faint."
